About Us

The School of Nursing, University College Hospital, Ibadan was founded in July 1952. The temporary site was at Eleyele. It then moved to this present building in 1957 after the opening of the 1st Nigeria University teaching Hospital in Ibadan.

The school comprises of hostels with the capacity for accommodating about 340 students, well equipped, modern classroom block with facilities for practical demonstrations, group tutorials, science laboratory and a library.

The school of nursing is a distinct educational establishment in which the  student nurses live and belong throughout their course training, though an integral part of the hospital.

The vision of the school is to train skillfull professional Nurses of international standards to fulfill the fundamental health needs of Nigeria in giving quality nursing care and contribute to efficient manpower to cope with emerging health challenges worldwide.

Our Philosophy

The philosophy of the school is based on the premise that quality nursing is essential in achieving better health for the people. Hence the need to prepare competent polyvalent nurses who will provide safe, acceptable and effective health services to meet the dynamic needs of individuals, families and communities

Our Aim

To prepare professional nurses who are competent and highly versatile in knowledge, and attitude values required for nursing practices in health care institutions that will enable them cope with clinical intervention in the served and underserved areas of the community from the moment the decision is taken and until the patients are discharged from the Hospital environment.

Our Objectives

  • Utilization of the nursing process in providing efficient and effective nursing care.

  • Ability to assist the anxious patient cope with the biological and environmental changes experienced during the perioperative phases.

  • Ability to ensure safety and implement nursing care decision in collaboration with other members of the health team.

  • Conduction and participation in research projects directed towards improvement of patient care and growth of the nursing profession.

  • Participation in effective budgeting and auditing of the unit.

  • Participation in Evidence based nursing practice.

  • Participation in architectural design of Clinical Services Department to effect efficiency and quality patient care.

The School Logo, Colours and Uniform

The school colors are Red, White and Green. For the School Uniform and Style, the uniform is White from 1 to 6 months, Rose pink from 6 months to 3 years with cap. Cap with stripe according to the level of training with brown covered shoes.
For boys – White shirt and trouser in the first year without bow tie. Three pieces white suite with bow tie from second to final year.
Each student Nurse is responsible for all his/her uniform accessories. Students are also personally responsible for items of uniform which are their own properties.
Cardigans and capes are permitted to be worn with uniform but not while carrying out nursing procedures. No nurse should either lend or borrow uniforms.
Wristwatches should not be worn on the wrist when on duty in the ward or department or when practicing in the classrooms
